Charley-Lois
Visual Artist
I use an array of visual art mediums and approaches to explore and celebrate the human experience. Artistic expression and exploration of story telling is a natural state of being and visual art is the primary focus of my creative path. I gently reject the commonplace idea that artists must adhere to one unified aesthetic and vision. Although I work towards clarifying the visual language I use, expect that there will always be a spectrum of divergent and distinct collections as a reflection of my lived experience and human nature.
Artisan maker
I have demonstrable skill and application for artisan skills. By day I co-direct a boutique business making bespoke frames using carving, moulding, sculpting, gilding and finishing skills in both traditional and contemporary approaches. Other areas of artistic and functional interest are working with textiles, fiber and ceramics. I believe in the practice of art as a right and tool for the people, and believe in the value of hand-made objects as reflection of community and tangible symbolism.
Creative Writer
I have enjoyed using creative writing as both pathways for exploratory concepts and as artistic expressions themselves. The unifying theme to the majority of previous writings are contrast in content and context, unsettled movement between stories and themes and ludic compulsion to explore the absurd and the relatable.
Designer
I have experience in developing curriculum, organising, facilitating and teaching of in-person and on-line classes and courses in the fine art, artisan and rare-trade industry. I am experienced in graphic design, website design, catalogue design, marketing and advertising. I collaborate with others in developing, making and improving hand-made products and their use in historical, creative and private spaces.
Sovereignty was never ceded
I acknowledge that I live and work on the land of the traditional owners- the Wurundjeri people and Taungurung people of the Kulin and East Kulin Nations. I acknowledge the traditional owners and pay my respects to their elders - past, present and emerging.
